Install the wireshark tool.
run the too and analyze the messages as follows,
1. run the wireshark tool before you are connected to internet (ethernet or wireless).
2. start the capture packets from menu on wireshark.
now attach the ethernet cable or connect to wifi. Look for DHCP packets
document each layer and the field in each layer
attach the screen shot of the DHCP packet captured
3. Select the option on wireshark so that you can only see traffic to and from your ip address
Capture a packetfor each type of protocol we have studied in the class so far TCP, UDP, ICMP etc. document each field in each layer.
send email using yahoo or gmail etc and see what packets are transferred
run some chat application skype or on facebook. CApture the packets.
submit screen shot for each packet type and its corresponding writeup each layer and its fields in the packet.
