In Session 1, you identified a substance to abstain from for a period of four weeks during this course. The assignment was designed to help you experience some of the feelings and thoughts that addicted individuals experience when they quit their drug of choice.

In this session, you will submit a reflection paper on your personal experience with participating in the Abstinence Project.

You must break your paper down into the following sections:
Introduction

Identify the specific habit/behavior that you worked to change. Include descriptions of at least the following:
The reason(s) why you decided to work to change that habit/behavior.
The reason(s) why you had not previously worked to change that habit/behavior (that is, reasons you maintained the status quo).
What stage of change you were at regarding the habit/behavior before completing this project. Include your rationale for stating you were at that stage of change and what your hypotheses were going into this project regarding how the habit/behavior developed, was maintained, and might be changed.
Methods

Include descriptions of at least the following:
The specific goals and objectives you had for yourself going into this project. Your goals must be behaviorally anchored and objectively measurable. In your objectives for accomplishing your goals, you must include evidence-based techniques when such techniques are available. Include information on how you measured progress and on the rationale for each goal and each objective. Whenever possible, use research evidence to support your rationales.
Information regarding any individuals who helped support you through the self-improvement process.
Results

Include descriptions of at least the following:
How well you met each goal and objective. To support your points, include both self-report data and reports from other sources (e.g., family, friends, coworkers, etc.). Remember to make these reported results behaviorally anchored as much as possible.
How much or how little the support of others played into your ability to meet your goals and objectives. State how such support helped and/or hindered your progress.
Whether you had any “slip-ups,” “lapses,” or “relapses,” and if so, what they looked like behaviorally and how/whether you were able to “get back on track.”
Discussion

Include descriptions of at least the following:
Whether your hypotheses were confirmed or disconfirmed.
Whether and how you were impacted by the experience of completing this project.
Whether and how others in your circle of influence (e.g., family, friends, coworkers) were impacted by the experience of you completing this project.
What you learned about self-improvement (the change process) and about yourself through completing this project.
What strengths and coping resources you drew upon in your completion of this project.
What obstacles and limitations hindered your ability to complete this project.
Whether, how, and why some techniques proved more helpful to you in the completion of this project than other techniques.
Whether your results were consistent with what you might expect based on prior theory and research evidence.
What contributed to any shifts in your motivation to change the habit/behavior, how it contributed, and why it contributed.
What you would do differently if you could go back and complete this project over again and why.
Conclusion

Briefly summarize what you are taking away from this experience and how it may or may not assist you in conducting addictions counseling with clients.

Quality Tooling Case Study
The Quality Tooling Company (QTC) was set up in the North East of England by a young
graduate Engineer, in the early 1960’s.
The main items of manufacture comprised engineers’ rules, engineering calipers, scribes (the
initial product range, which supplied the local engineering industry) and then expanding to
include micrometers and a limited range of specialist items which required high quality
materials and skills to produce accurate and long‐lasting items.
Due to the decline of engineering in the North East of England and increased competition from
globalization, QTC realised that, although the product range commanded great respect
throughout the industry – from both customers and competitors, this course of business
activity was untenable in the long term. An alternative, radical strategy had to be developed
to ensure the survival of the business.
The QTC production plant was well equipped with a strong financial base, the workforce was
loyal, and many of whom had begun their employment from school or university and worked
their way up the corporate ladder.
The commitment and loyalty of the workforce is recognised and rewarded by the company in
various ways, due to the owner’s philanthropic and moral beliefs and a willingness to embrace
modern management principles.
The son and daughter of the owner had also followed the QTC career path and were keen to
give the business a 21st Century philosophy.
The business had to evolve into a new, engineering‐based entity.
In 2010, an approach was made to QTC by the North‐East Hospital Management Board, for the
design and manufacture of handheld precision medical equipment, initially for research work.
The Board had acquired funding to develop keyhole surgery and other pioneering treatment
techniques. In 2012, the Board signed a two‐year contract with QTC to manufacture these
cutting‐edge products on a larger scale.
This new market has expanded rapidly over the last three years and QTC is receiving worldwide
recognition for its product range and company image. QTC now realises that the business must project itself to customers, suppliers and investors as a world class, 21st Century
organisation with vision, energy and conscience. 
Assignment 
As the newly appointed Quality Manager for the Quality Tooling Company, you have been
asked by the Senior Management Team to prepare a 3000 word report to explain how you
would introduce a companywide quality improvement strategy. This improvement strategy
must include the Total Quality Management, Quality Assurance and Quality Control
implications for QTC. You are also to explain how the improvement strategy would help to
sustain the Culture of Quality in the organisation. 
Your assignment report should consist of:
An introduction which explains the focus of the assignment.
The main body of the text where you develop and explain how you would introduce a
companywide quality improvement strategy in the Quality Tooling Company in line with the
stipulations above which must include, Total Quality Management, Quality Assurance, Quality
Control and the sustainability of the Culture of Quality.
A conclusion briefly reiterating the focus of the assignment and summarising the
improvements you have identified
