Your essay must be a minimum of 1,500 words (and please no more than 3,000 words). Your paper does not need a cover page, but be sure to include a heading that includes which prompt you selected. Your paper should include: introduction paragraph with a thesis statement, as many body paragraphs as you need to answer the prompt, a concluding paragraph, and a works cited.
You must use at least 4 sources from class in your essay. At least two of these sources must be academic (peer-reviewed books or journal articles, NOT newspaper articles). As long as you use 4 class sources, 2 of which must be academic, you may also bring in outside sources if you wish to. In-text citations must be included when you cite your sources. MLA or APA style must be used.
For this question, I want you to situate the U.S. in the broader global context. As of June 2022, the United States was 70th in terms of women’s worldwide representation (in the congressional lower houses, aka our House of Representatives) with 28.1% women in our lower house.
Discuss in detail 2 reasons why the US remains far from parity (50%) in comparison to other nations that have reached parity or are nearing it.
What, in your opinion, would be the best 1 way to improve women’s representation in the United States? Provide evidence for your argument from our readings.
Many countries who have gotten closer to parity have done so using gender quotas. In general, do you believe that quotas are an effective/worthwhile way to bring women into political office, why or why not? Be sure to provide at least 2 reasons and to cite from our readings to support your opinion.
