Whitman and Dickinson post-modernism

Dickinson’s and Whitman’s poems were foundational in establishing a vision for the Nature of America and Americans as we move into the Modernist period of fiction. In this discussion, identify some of the distinctively American environmental (internal and external) and individual (cultural, social, historical, religious) concerns that form the basis of their poetry. Use one line from one poem from each the poets, one from Whitman and one from Dickinson that you feel justifies your response.
