reading and assignment calendar but is in the textbook, and 2) connect that outside reading to
something you did read. That can happen in terms of genre, style, story, theme, etc. Compare and
contrast will be a key technique to use. Your overall thesis should address how some of the key
literary qualities of this genre can teach you something about other times/places/cultures.
