The Five Article Presentations (self-recorded presentation and brief paper)
Over the course of the semester, you will present on a current news article to the class. The article you select must be directly related to the course content or theme; however, I would prefer that your article be related to the specific topic (chapter) of that week’s class. The requirements are:
1. Article presentations are scheduled throughout the semester.
2. Articles can be up to six months old. As long as the article pertains to course content, it can come from any source. Articles in online newspapers, magazines, and trade journals are preferred. Good examples include:
a. Business Week http://www.businessweek.com
b. Forbes – http://www.forbes.com
c. Fortune http://www.fortune.com
d. Fox Business http://www.foxbusiness.com
e. Bloomberg http://www.bloomberg.com
f. Fast Company http://www.fastcompany.com
g. WSJ http://www.wsj.com g. SHRM http://www.shrm.org
3. You must choose an article that focuses on a specific firm or industry and that will stimulate meaningful class discussion. These are usually longer, more substantive articles rather than short news briefs. If you are in doubt about an article, let me review it first. Articles that focus on “best practices” or “how to” will not be accepted.
4. Your five (5) minute recorded oral presentation consists of two parts: 1) a summary of the article and 2) managerial implications (Why is the article important? What can we learn from it?, etc.).
5. You will submit a copy of the article and a one paragraph (concise/few sentences) managerial implication statement (in your own words, not text copied from the article) via Moodle.
6. The presentation style is informal. Your presentation should be no more than five (5) minutes in length.
