English Question

For your final paper, you will write an essay that examines two authors whose works “speak” to each other in a way that they share subjects, themes, or styles. You will choose one or more works from each author to read, analyze, and compare to the other author and their work.  Your essay must be AT LEAST 5 paragraphs, including:

an introduction that:

starts broad about the themes or movements you will discuss

places your ideas within a literature conversation or argument (ex: connecting Transcendentalists to Romantics, or showing how themes have evolved or stayed the same over time)

a thesis that creates an argument about how your authors and/or their works are connected

AT LEAST 3 body paragraphs that have:

a topic sentence that supports the thesis

evidence, including quotes from your research (quotes should be cited using MLA format and no longer than 4 lines long)

explanations of how your evidence supports your claims

transitions to the next topic

a conclusion that summarizes the significance of your thesis, the overall significance of your claims, and any further questions the topic raises
