The CIO of Vandelay approaches you (the CISO) and asks if the firm should be using an intrusion detection/intrusion prevention (IDS/IPS) system as part of the firms defense. Not being sure, you consult your team about this. Half of your team thinks that IDS/IPS is an archaic and old-fashioned piece of security technology that has been eclipsed by a newer generation of tools. The other half is advising that IDS/IPS is important and should be deployed within the security tool portfolio. Regulatory/compliance concerns are NOT an issue for this decision. 
Task as the CISO:
1. Do some research and make a decision on whether or not to deploy IDS/IPS.
2. Articulate and justify why you have chosen to or not chosen to deploy this.
3. If it’s a no, then provide a viable alternative that you feel would be better, and discuss why.
