ARTICLE REVIEW GUIDELINES
Read the article assigned to you carefully and then write your review of it. Your article review should be 1,500 to 2000 words long, typed double-line spaced, font size 12, Times New Roman. Be sure to indent your paragraphs and left justify the text per APA 7th Edition formatting style. I have also attached an article that should guide you in doing all the other relevant APA formatting. The following guidelines should help you put together a well-written review:
Write the citation of the article in APA 7th Edition format at the top of your paper.
Example:
Letterman, D., Leno, J., O’Brian, C., & Plunkett, S. W. (1982). How I handle all those people who want my autograph: It is a curse. The Journal of Notable People, 1(2), 75–84.
Write an Introduction for your review:
The first paragraph of your introduction should inform the reader that you intend to review an article. The purpose of the introduction paragraph is to prepare the reader for what is to follow in your review.
In the main body of your review, you should cover the following points:
State the overall purpose of the article. What was the main theme of the article? What new ideas or information were communicated in the article?
Writing about the research methodology and results is critical to your review. Ask yourself the following questions to help you with this part of your review:
What methods did the authors use to reach conclusions?
If this is an experiment or survey, how were the data collected and analyzed?
Who were the subjects?
Briefly describe the research methodology.
What were the basic results or findings from the research?
Give your impressions of the usefulness of the article. Give your reasons for your opinions. Write about your opinions of the strengths and weaknesses of the article in separate paragraphs:
In your opinion, what were the strengths and weaknesses of the article? Be sure to think about your impressions and the reasons for them. Listing what the author wrote as limitations is not the same thing as forming your own opinions and justifying them to the reader.
Make an effort to go beyond commenting only about the organization and layout of the article.
Were the findings important to a reader?
Were the conclusions valid? Do you agree with the conclusions?
Write a Conclusion for your review:
The conclusion paragraph briefly informs the reader what you wrote about in your review and your overall findings. A conclusion paragraph provides intellectual closure for the reader. There is some redundancy in a conclusion paragraph, but it still is essential to provide closure in a well-written review.
Carefully proofread your work and make all necessary corrections before submitting it.
