An annotated Bibliography is a list of citations for research articles, books, and documents. Each citation is followed by a descriptive and evaluative paragraph of approximately 150 words, which constitutes the annotation.
There are several reasons why writing annotated bibliographies are important. First, annotations inform you, the researcher, about the content, relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources you have selected. Two, it is excellent preparation for writing the literature review portion of a research project. When you write annotations, you must read each source very carefully and fully understand all elements of the article. Third, annotated bibliographies provide an avenue for a researcher to see what has been done in the literature and where his/her research idea can fit. Some extensive annotated bibliographies do get published and if you find one, it can be an excellent source of information related to a particular topic.
Assignment directions:
Using Chapman’s Leatherby Libraries, locate FIVE sources related to your research question. These must be books or peer reviewed articles. Refer back to the Guided Peer Review Article Search assignment for steps to locate articles in Chapman’s Leatherby Libraries. You can also search their catalog to locate relevant books. As a Brandman student, these books can be sent to your home FREE OF CHARGE. The librarians provide a postage paid envelope for you to return the book as well.
Write a correct APA reference for each source.
Under each of your five APA references, write an evaluative paragraph of at least 150-175 words that includes the elements below:
Briefly describe the authority and background of the author
Briefly comment on the intended audience of the article
Summarize the key aspects/content of the article
Compare/Contrast this work with other sources you are citing
Explain how this research relates to your research question
The entire document is to be double spaced and follow APA guidelines.
