ADDICTION Literature Review: summary of a body of research (in this case biological psychology) Choose a Topic • Refer to the general topic you chose in class o Choose something more specific within that topic Choose something current & well-researched Be specific: the more focused the topic, the easier it will be to compare articles Articles/Sources • You will need a total of 3 empirical research articles • Use PsycInfo & Google Scholar to find peer-reviewed articles • Most articles should be from the last 10 years (current research) Organizing the Paper • Chronological o Older to more recent publications o Analyze patterns, turning points, & debates that may have shifted the research over time • Thematic o Organized around key themes in your topic · Theory o Organized based on theories or definitions of key concepts • Compare/Contrast o Compare/contrast articles with opposing views (demonstrate controversy) Structure of the Paper • Introductory Paragraph o Explain your topic and outline the rest of the paper State your research question/thesis • Body of the Paper o Summarize & synthesize the main points of each source Discuss the methods & results o Analyze & interpret the sources o Critique/evaluate each source • Conclusion o Draw conclusions about the past research o Identify real-world implications & possible future research • Final paper should be 3-5 pages long (no more than 5) References (APA Style) • Cite throughout the paper o Do not use direct quotations—paraphrase in your own words and cite the articles • Include a Reference page at the end of the paper • Entire paper should be in APA format (title page not required)
