U.S not Using Ocean Water as Drinkable Water.

The water crisis in most states in the United States is not surprising to American citizens. There is water rationing in many states where the residents receive water for less than three days in a week. The majority of the local governments in the United States fail to provide its population with universal water supply. The water crisis is severe during the summer when the drought is prolonged. The state governments have established many water plants and invested million dollars in piping, treatment, and digging of the boreholes to improve the water supply to its population. In spite of all these efforts, they are unable to meet the demand of water requirement by United state population. The demand continues to increase now and then due to population growth. The United States is agricultural country, hence the advancement of technology and high demand for agricultural products made many farmers opt for irrigation farming. Irrigation farming only heightens the water crisis in the United States without achieving its objectives due to water shortages. Over depending on the groundwater is becoming detrimental to the residence of the United States. Over piping, Underground water causes the available underground water unsafe for human being consumption. Municipal water board banned underground water supply from some water plant since it was suspected to contain some traces of lead. This is clear evidence that United States citizens could be using water that has carcinogenic unknowingly. In 2009, there were more than twenty-two thousand reported cases of people infected with the water-borne respiratory disease. It is high time the state governments to think outside the box and come up with an amicable solution that would solve the problem of water crisis for the last time.

The cause of water crisis remains a controversy to many people in the United States for many years. The causes of water crisis have become the blame game between the government, water boards, and the general citizens. After all, the general citizens are the one that suffers since they depend on piped water from the municipality and local government. Lack of accountability, innovation, and corruption escalate water crisis in the United States. It is shameful to wake up every morning to see the headline in newspapers on the issue of water shortages or rationing in the United States, bearing in the mind that U.S controls the world economy and at the same time, it is the most industrialized Nation. Depending on water from lakes and rivers only increases the risk of water-borne disease among Americans. Investing in technology and industrialization are among major cause of the water crisis in the United States. Technology and industrialization they only contribute to the pollution of water that is available for human consumption. Environmental Action Program (EAP) has fined various industries heavily for the discharge of many gallons of oil spills in many lakes in the United States.

Coming up with tough environmental standards cannot solve the problem of water shortages in America. The American government must find an alternative strategy to end the crisis of water scarcities. Given that, the country borders the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the west there ought to be measure to ensure that people do not go without water. No state borders ocean that has taken initiative of utilizing ocean water to supplement households need in curbing water crisis. Although ocean water is salty, it has the capacity of meeting all water requirements in the United States. The cost used in pumping and softening the ground water is much more than that spent in softening and piping ocean water. Bearing in the mind that groundwater contains some traces of heavy metals which are risky to the health of user ocean water will be the best alternative to curb this health risks. Since the ocean, water is plenty and inexhaustible; it will eventually meet the demand of all the American citizens. By doing so, the American will not depend on lakes and rivers untreated water that is unsafe and increase that rate of water borne diseases. Hence, there will be few cases of infection because of unclean water. American is rich in experts and expatriate who will offer myriad of information that will be helpful in the treatment of ocean water and make it safe for domestic use. The federal government and the state government should set aside some amount of money in their budget to set up water treatment plant for the ocean water. Water boards should ensure that every American connects with a modernized piping system of safe and clean ocean water.
