However, I do expect you to give it a solid try and work to answer every question. Labs that are completed in their entirety with answers that are relevant to the topic of each question should receive full credit.

Based on what you have learned from your fossil identification and reading of the reference materials, answer the following questions: a) List two major prerequisites that must be met for most organisms to be fossilized. b) Would you expect better preservation of very thin-shelled bivalves in an oceanfront environment or in sheltered lagoon? Explain. c) Describe a natural environment near your home or college where fossil preservation may be taking place. What does this environment provide to enhance preservation? d) If a fossil brachiopod were found to be composed entirely of pyrite, would you suspect that replacement had taken place? Why? e) How would you distinguish among rugose, tabulate and scleractinian corals?
