Subject Review Assignment. Description: In this assignment you will be gathering and communicating what you understand as the broad topics that support popular knowledge on a technological subject of your choosing. You should have picked a technology and begun research on references online and in popular media to develop a robust set of citations on the topic. You might consider Sarah Goldsmith’s ‘The Perfection of the Paperclip’ as an example of what this fully coherent collection of various materials might look like in its final form. Your central task is to come to what you consider a broad understanding of the topic. What do people say about it? What are people’s expectations relative to the topic? What facts do people know and what facts would they be surprised to learn? Finally you will need to develop your own idea of how to communicate this information as clearly as possible to an audience. Format: The format of this assignment is a crucial component of its delivery. You have complete FREEDOM in how you want to deliver your information. You can write an essay, but you should also feel free to take multimodal and multimedia approaches to delivering this information. You can make a video, a podcast, a poster, a performance, a wiki page, a blog or any media that you feel would amplify your topic. The one caveat is that you must have a script that meets the word requirement regardless of the medium you select. There should also ultimately be a robust Bibliography that lays out all the various sources you interacted with along the way to develop your Review. There should be AT LEAST 25 references in your Bibliography. The difference between a Works Cited and a Bibliography is that a Bibliography is a list of everything you have read or watched on the topic regardless of whether or not you cite it in your work. Purpose: 1) Practice reading broadly across a topic that interests you and get a sense of how to engage with an interest by compiling knowledge. 2) Develop an ability to synthesize information from many sources into a concise discussion of the topic. 3) Implement your understanding multimedia and multimodal project to choose and construct the best version of your final deliverable.
