Assessment Details
For this assessment, you will develop a sustainable business plan for your chosen business, which will guide the transition to a SBM.
The SBM should integrate sustainability practices into the businesses’ core functions and incorporate the use of innovations to align with the state of the art of sustainable development.
Your sustainable business plan should include the following:
Executive summary
The executive summary should give a concise overview of your entire business plan clearly outlining the purpose of your plan, the introductory information pertaining to your chosen business, your proposed SBM in response to that information, and the ethical, legal and compliance considerations of your proposed SBM. The executive summary should be written at last.
Table of contents
Introduction and context setting
Introduce the company and set the context for your sustainable business plan/SBM.
Purpose, aim and objectives of the business plan
Briefly outline the purpose, aims and objectives of your sustainable business plan.
NB. This section can be integrated into the Introduction.
Business assessment
Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the business’s current business model inclusive of its high-level objectives. You may like to follow the nine building blocks of the business model canvas you explored in Weeks 2-4. Be sure to include an overview of the business’s current triple bottom line (TBL) sustainability performance. This will help you identify/clarify the problem(s) that your proposed SBM will address.
Stakeholder analysis
Identify and analyse all the stakeholders of your proposed SBM:
oInternal stakeholders
oExternal stakeholders – inclusive of industry and supply chain.
While a key component of your report is to persuade and gain buy-in from key stakeholders from your business, you must also consider the wide range of stakeholders for whom your proposed SBM will have an impact.
NB. This stakeholder analysis might be integrated into the proposed sustainable business model.
Your proposed sustainable business model
Drawing on the tools and frameworks (e.g., the sustainable business model canvas) you have explored throughout this course, outline the proposed SBM you have developed for your business. Your proposed SBM should cover important aspects, such as:
oYour suggested vision, mission and guiding principles for sustainable practice within the business, taking into account state-of-the-art sustainable practice, as well as alignment with the business’s objectives and needs.
oYour TBL targets for the business, with a focus on aligning to sustainability assessment frameworks.
oKey focus areas and core business functions where the strategy can be implemented based on where it will have the most positive impact on the business.
oKey innovations that will support your proposed SBM, taking into account relevant ethical, legal and compliance considerations. You are encouraged to utilise the innovations you focused on in Assessment 2.
oCommunication plan for stakeholder engagement
A SWOT analysis of your SBM
