You will design a program, service, or event (hereinafter
“project”): 1) that addresses a social justice need in your community,
2) includes
UDL guidelines to enhance accessibility, and 3) accommodates a disability
identity and another marginalized identity;
4) then create a proposal to
implement your idea that you could present to library leadership. More
specifically, identify a social justice need
of the community that your library
serves that is well-known or documented, which impacts its more marginalized
members.
Imagine and clearly describe a project that your library could create
and/or implement that would help to meet or overcome the need, or
some part of
it. Design the project using several criteria from each of the three guidelines
of the UDL framework. Include provisions to
remove barriers and ensure
accessibility and inclusion of persons with a specified disability identity and
persons with another specified
marginalized identity. Identify partners (e.g.,
community agencies) who will have key roles in the project. Describe the
procedures necessary to create and/or implement the project (e.g., steps,
materials, resources) and staff that are essential to the project. Explain what
existing
library policy or policies would need to be consulted and propose
policy changes that would be required (if necessary) to create and/or
implement
the project. Identify the limitations of your project (e.g., what it does not
do or include or cannot accomplish). Create a timeline for
implementation.
Package your project as a proposal that you could make to the library leadership.
Choose a format that you believe will be
engaging and compelling to your target
audience, such as: Slide show, voiced-over Slides, Prezi, speech, an audio
recorded play or drama,
rap or song, podcast, video, ’zine, or other
performance or format. Carefully follow the rubric.
