Evidence-based practice is widely used in healthcare and continues to grow to improve the outcome for patients, families, providers, and healthcare agencies (Gray et al., 2016). Our textbook mentions the utilization of websites developed by government agencies and professional organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) when reviewing literature for research (Gray et al., 2016, p, 120). It is important to use resources that are peer-reviewed, scholarly, and credible when completing research so it can be ensured that the data collected is accurate and can be applied to a clinical question.
Google is a popular search engine students commonly use when researching; a common problem that may arise when utilizing Google is the websites that are not scholarly that populate, such as Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not considered to be an appropriate resource to use when gathering data and information because it can be edited and contributed to by anyone who would like to add information. To prevent unscholarly resources from populating, Google Scholar is a helpful tool that can be used for literature searches.
The Institute for Educational Sciences (IES), is another website that provides a search engine to use for education research and statistics (The Institute for Educational Sciences [IES], n.d.). The IES has the mission of providing scientific evidence used to ground education practice and to be shared in a format that is accessible to educators and students (IES, n.d.).
ResearchGate is another network that students can use to obtain credible data and information (ResearchGate, n.d.). ResearchGate is a network where researchers share knowledge and expertise on topics they have covered. A free account needs to be created to start benefiting from the provided info, but this could be a helpful resource to utilize throughout this course.

The first website I found was the National Library of Medicine (NLM, 2016). It talks about research being an essential element in nursing, and free and reliable resources to support nursing research have been created in the National Library of Medicine. This website provides instructions on how to use the PubMed nursing database. The PubMed database provides access to more than just the Nursing Database Search Tutorial: This site offers a tutorial on searching nurses in one million citations and abstracts of the literature of biomedical science journals (NLM, 2016). It is helpful for students new to nursing research and who need guidance on using databases to find relevant articles.
The second site is the National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR), which supports and conducts basic clinical research and research education in health and disease, research that encompasses and integrates the biological and behavioral sciences. They developed the scientific basis for clinical practice (NIH, undated). Nursing research is a knowledge structure separate from the nursing profession and clinical practice (“Advancing the Nation’s Health Needs: NIH Research Training Programs”, 2005).
The third page I found was nursing Reference Center Plus is an evidence-based information resource designed for all your practice, education, and research needs (EBSCO, n.d.). This site’s benefits are promoting the evidence-based nursing practice to help the hospital meet its regulatory requirements, improve patient safety and quality of outcomes, and reduce reportable events. This site offers articles and journals for use by nurses (EBSCO, n.d.). These websites are good resources for caregivers who will definitely use these websites in the future.
