For Dissertations see the Dissertation Regulations. The rules below apply to all other assessed written coursework in the School of Law unless a module specifically indicates otherwise.

Form of the essay
Your name must not appear anywhere in the essay so that marking is anonymous.

The title will stipulate a maximum number of pages; and these pages must follow prescribed formatting, to ensure each student has the opportunity to write the same amount. Over- length work, or work not following the prescribed formatting, will receive a penalty of up to 10 marks deducted; a mark of O may be awarded in a particularly bad case.

Text (including quotations) must be in Times New Roman 12 point font.
Line spacing must be at least one-and-a—half-lines; except that indented quotations may have single line spacing.
 Margins of at least 2 cm must be used at the top and bottom of the page, and 2.5 cm on the right and left sides of the page.
 Footnotes or endnotes must be included within the specified page allowance; each note must be no smaller than 10 point font and must start on a new line.
 A bibliography may be added: this does not count towards the specified page
allowance. No other appendix may be attached.
Pages should be numbered.
