For college assignments, the structure of your essay is very important!
In terms of the standard format for college essays, generally a 500-800 word assignment will use the basic five paragraph structure consisting of an introduction of approximately 60-80 or so words and a conclusion of about the same size and then three body paragraphs of about 150-180 words each. Remember, the introduction introduces the topic and includes your thesis which is your opinion on the topic. The body then goes into details to support the thesis while the conclusion usually restates the thesis and ends with a concluding statement. Generally, four paragraphs is not an academic standard; longer essays are usually set in five paragraphs.Short essays are basically three paragraphs set up with intro 60-80 words, body paragraph with 150 or so words and a conclusion of 60-80 words.
These size parameters are obviously approximations, but are generally the accepted sizes for standard college papers.
These are just suggested guidelines but generally accepted as standard for academics essays. Just keep in mind that the structure of an essay is of prime significance for college assignments, and also keep in mind that if a professor doesn’t say otherwise, use the five paragraph essay format.
