Different studies demonstrate that there a positive correlation between nursing education and positive as well as quality patient outcomes. Imperatively, research shows that increasing the number of registered nurses with higher education leads to fewer medication errors, reduces patient mortality rates, and promotes positive outcomes. Higher education improves the self-confidence and knowledge of nurses as well as their critical thinking abilities (Rahman et al., 2015). Again, these nurses have better interpersonal skills that allow them to provide enhanced care by understanding their patients in a better way. The implication is that advanced degree in nursing allows nurse practitioners to attain better knowledge and skills that they translate to quality patient outcomes.
In a research by Baccus (2017), the article demonstrates that higher levels of nurse education lead to better patient outcomes. Through higher levels of education, nurses enhance their expertise and certification in their specialty leading to increased empowerment, better intrinsic value and effective collaborative engagement with other healthcare providers. Using a comprehensive review of literature based from different databases, the article illustrates that higher level of education like advanced degree leads to quality patient outcomes as nurses have knowledge and expertise to understand patient conditions.
The research findings in the article are valid since when nurses have expertise in their specialty, they can use better and proven care models in providing care to patients in different clinical settings. The findings of this research show that nurses who understand a patient’s diagnosis can enhance care by implementing these models in their clinical settings (Baccus, 2017). I agree with these findings since I have experienced the effects of better and higher levels of education for nurses in our community health setting where advanced degree nurse practitioners focus on preventive care.
