There are two texts in this assessment: A short story and its associated research package.
Instructions:
You will do a close reading of one of the short stories below and study its research package.
You will complete the ‘Close reading guide’ and the ‘Purpose, effect, function chart’ (templates attached below).
You will write a 750-1000 word analytical essay on the short story. Please use the information in the research package and the notes you collect in the ‘Close reading guide’ and ‘Purpose, effect, function chart’ to write your essay. Please note: Your essay will NOT be marked if you do not submit the ‘Close reading guide’ and ‘Purpose, effect, function chart’.
You must review the previous lesson modules 2 and 3. I will be looking for evidence that you are applying what you learned in those modules in this essay. Please review the rubric before you begin in order to clarify in your mind what the specific expectations are. The rubric reflects that we are looking for specific skills in this assessment that have been covered in detail in the previous lessons.
REMEMBER: You must use MLA format throughout your response. You can find information about MLA in the introductory unit to this course. Please remember that plagiarism will not be tolerated. As a grade 12 student, you should already know all about plagiarism and MLA format. If you have any questions about academic honesty, please contact your teacher as soon as possible in order to avoid any misunderstandings.
